The Trail Foundation Logo
Support the Trail Foundation! Those of us who racewalk, run, walk or bike on our beautiful Hike & Bike Trail around Town Lake should also support it. A great way to do this is by joining The Trail Foundation. Recently, annual donations from members have helped bring about a complete renovation of Lou Neff Point, more than 100 newly-planted trees, new lighting, more than 30 maintained gardens along the Trail and the first new Trail restroom since the 1970’s!

To find out more about how
The Trail Foundation is working with the City of Austin to continually provide improvements to the Trail and what you can do to help, explore their website. You can join for as little as $45 for an individual membership.

ESPN.com writer Jim Caple wrote this column on July 6, 2008: “Lack of Respect? Racewalking Relegated to the Parking Lot”, about the men’s 20km racewalk event at the Olympic Trials in Eugene, OR. A positive article about how our sport does not get the respect it deserves.

Racewalking shoes can be hard to find because regular running shoes won't work -- the heels are too thick and they are too inflexible. We need light and flexible racing flats, made for competitive runners. This shoe review page on Dave's website has shoe photos and user reviews of some of the shoes racewalkers are using.

If you use orthotics in your racewalking shoes, you may find that a hard plastic orthotic, good for running, is too inflexible for racewalking. Podiatrist Dr. Michael Valenza of the Austin Foot Center can make you a pair of flexible orthotics that are better suited for racewalking.
